Traditional SEO focuses on ranking pages in the ten blue links. AEO focuses specifically on earning position zero — featured snippets, knowledge panels, and voice answers. The techniques overlap, but AEO requires additional structured formatting like question headings and concise answer paragraphs.

It checks 10 AEO factors: question-based headings, concise answer blocks (40-60 words), FAQ schema markup, list and table structures, definition patterns, heading depth and hierarchy, direct answer positioning, speakable content (sentence length), long-tail question patterns, and content freshness.

A concise answer block is a paragraph of 40-60 words that directly follows a question heading. This format matches how Google extracts featured snippets — a question heading followed by a brief, complete answer.

FAQ schema (FAQPage JSON-LD) tells search engines that your page contains questions and answers. This can trigger rich FAQ results in Google and makes your content eligible for voice assistant answers. Aim for at least 3 Q&A pairs.
